When the pandemic hit Long Island, my life quickly became consumed by it. My job at the town quickly evolved into helping anyone who needed it from getting PPE supplies to nurses on the front lines to delivering meals to homebound, high risk individuals. My solace during the day was interacting with the incredible rescue dogs and cats at the Smithtown Animal Shelter. (I’m responsible for social media so I film and photograph the animals there.)

I saw so much pain and heartbreak during the pandemic and needed an outlet for my own mental health. So I began painting rocks. It was therapy; taking something covered in dirt on the ground and creating something beautiful for friends, family and strangers… These rocks became my saving grace. 

So many people began asking me for custom orders, asking if I had a website where they could buy them. It didn’t feel right taking money from others when this was just a passion. And so, the only way I would accept payment for my work was if I could put that money to a better use. I can’t think of a better way than helping the innocent rescues at the shelter.

Every dollar is donated to a special fund to pay for specialty medical care, professional training and holistic treatment. My hope is that every rock given to a person is but a stepping stone; helping to give a second chance to some very deserving four-legged companions.
